Ketchum and Sun Valley nestle within a massive concentration of mountain ranges including Idaho's Impressive Sawtooths running to nearby Stanley, Idaho. Wilderness Surrounds Sun Valley, America’s first destination ski resort, a natural playground for skiers, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts. The splendour has attracted generations of celebrities. The resort originally consisted of Sun Valley Lodge and Sun Valley Inn, with classic resort atmosphere. Elkhorn provides "backdoor" access to the original ski hill Dollar Mountain. The real attraction for serious skiers today is Bald Mountain with a recent extension of runs including Seattle Ridge (at an elevation of 8,680 feet), Warm Springs (at the base of Challenger quad lift) and River Run (at the base of River Run quad lift). Ketchum was established in 1880 after David Ketchum, a trapper, guide, and mountaineer.
